Law School Application Help Admissions Timeline

So you’ve decided you’re going to apply to law school for Fall 2014. The good news is you’re starting nice and early and have plenty of time for law school application help. However, it can still be an overwhelming process. This post will guide you through the nitty-gritty of an ideal law school application timeline. March – April Decide whether you are going to take the June or October LSAT test. See my earlier post for help with this choice. As an LSAT tutor, I would not recommend waiting until December to take the LSAT test for the first time. You want a chance to take it again if you need to. If you are taking the June LSAT test, start studying! Consider hiring an LSAT tutor to maximize your score. Reach out to your recommenders and ask them if they would be willing to write you a recommendation. Most schools require two, but many applicants submit three. Make sure to use people who know you well. Unless you’ve been out of school for a long time, it’s a good idea to have at least one college professor if possible. Start working on your personal statement. Check out this post for tips. May – June If you are taking the June LSAT test, now’s the time to kick it into high gear! If you’re taking October this is a good time to start studying and think about finding an LSAT tutor. Continue working on your personal statement. Shoot to have a full draft by early June. Once you have a draft, have friends and family read it and give feedback to make sure it sounds like you. July – August If you took the June LSAT test, get your score and decide whether or not to retake. If you’re taking October, time to get serious! Finish a second draft of your personal statement. Continue to get feedback. Check in with your recommenders and give them a firm deadline – I would recommend Sept. 1 or even earlier if possible. Send them your resume and the latest draft of your personal statement. September Finalize your materials and send them in! ;
